Oldham Athletic were able to force a draw away from home when they met with Bury over the weekend. The relegation threatened side managed to score two goals against their guests but they could not hold on to the lead. Oldham pulled one back and a late effort from Ben Pringle ensured they got a share of the spoils.
Lee Clark had to watch his side concede a 90th-minute winning goal from the stands after he was sent off during Bury’s 3-2 defeat at Rotherham.
Kieffer Moore twice put the Millers ahead, but they were pegged back in each half by Jermaine Beckford and Nathan Cameron headers and when it looked like the Shakers may cling on for a share of the spoils, Richie Towell drilled home the winner in the final minute.
Bury fans got the explanation they wanted following the shocking exit of Alex Bruce.
Bury had explained that the player joined the club on non-contractual terms in their statement. Additionally, Bruce took to Twitter to explain that the media left that part out when reporting the details of his move.
Following his release from Hull City, the defender has been seeking new employers all summer. He claimed he asked to train with the team while searching for a new club, so the deal was non contractual.
“I accepted the kind offer from Lee Clark and Alan Thompson, who I have known for a long time, to train with the first team squad in order to maintain my fitness. At no point did I enter a contract with the club,” Bruce clarified.
Bury FC will be playing under a new skipper in the upcoming season after Antony Kay took an exit from the club to make his way to Port Vale.
However, he couldn’t have a great season as a player and the head coach Lee Clark conveyed to him at the end of the season that he might not be getting regular Football at Bury going forward and if he wanted to feature regularly, he could move to somewhere else.
Though there was a year left for the expiration of Kay’s contract with Bury, it was terminated prematurely as both the concerned parties agreed for that. The holding midfielder thereafter penned a deal with the 4th tier club Port Vale to join them.
Clark has not yet named anyone as the new skipper of the Shakers and will make a decision regarding it after the pre-season.
League One side Bury FC are positive over their hopes of getting a new stadium after meetings with the city council went well, according to reports.
The vice chair of the club Glenn Thomas met with Bury Council and the talks ended well. The club remains hopeful that the progress is in line with their timeline.
The club wanted to build apartments and retail outlets around the stadium on Gigg Lane but their plans were not approved. The club claims they now have the permission to progress and that all is going according to plan.
“We had a meeting with the council on Tuesday where there were very positive discussions about the new stadium and the redevelopment of Gigg Lane.
Bury manager Lee Clark said that he is happy with the draw against Oldham.
Bury had a great chance to win the game in the closing stage of the match, but George Miller will miss a glorious opportunity when he fired directly at the keeper. However, the match was quite close with Oldham also having chances to win the game.
The draw allows Bury to remain above Oldham and 3 points above the relegation zone. Clark said that it is important to avoid defeat if you cannot win a game. He admitted that the match was a tough one and in tough condition and that his players gave the best on the pitch. He said that you need to respect the draw even if that means you get only one point.
