PLAYERS MAY LEAVE

Bury could lose a few players in the January transfer window due to the financial troubles of the club according to the manager Kevin Blackwell. Bury are currently struggling in League One, but it remains to be seen if they can afford to keep some of the senior players at the club. The club have been recently placed under a transfer embargo, but the manager is hoping that it will be lifted in January. Blackwell has said that the directors of the club have been working real hard to get the club out of the situation. A number of loan players have returned to their parent clubs, which has depleted the squad even further.

Even though there was a short improvement in form over the last couple of weeks in the month of November, the form has alarmingly dipped in the last month. This has led to the team falling into the relegation battle once again. In order to get out of relegation trouble, Blackwell has said that he needs the presence of quality players who were on loan at the club only a few weeks ago. The dire financial situation of the club means that they have been unable to keep hold of the loan players or make the move permanent.

“We’re being dictated to by a crisis that we should be managing, and the crisis is managing us. Who knows? That’s the problem that the club is in at the moment. The directors are doing what they can but, at this moment in time, I really couldn’t tell you if someone’s coming or going. It was a shock to me when we went into the embargo. I was only told the day before. I don’t know what date we’re coming out [or] if we are coming out,” said Blackwell.

BLACKWELL HAPPY WITH WIN

The Bury manager Kevin Blackwell has said that he is extremely happy with the defensive performance of his players, were also singling out the young defence that he chose for the match against Scunthorpe United. It seemed like a long and hard season for Bury, as they were unable to win any match in the league until the middle of October. However, they have since gone for a run that has seen them pick up five victories in the last seven matches. This was also seen them rise from the bottom of the table to a position where we are in the relegation zone only on goal difference.

Kevin Blackwell resorted to using a lot of inexperienced players for the recent matches, and he continued in the same policy in the match against Scunthorpe United as well. Ethan Ebanks-Landell, who is just 19 years old and was making his second start of the career, has been one of the impressive performers for the club in the last two matches. He is on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, and the managers singled out his performance by saying that he showed incredible maturity for his age. However, he has not excelled at the art of using his body in defence, but Blackwell maintains that it will come with experience.

“Ethan got man-handled a little bit, but then he showed times when to use his body well. That will come in time. Matt Doherty is 20, Joe Skarz is 23 and Mark Hughes is still only 25. There’s youth all over the place. I’m very pleased because it was a very good away performance. Someone said it looked as though we were the home team and I think that’s a compliment to the players. We feel disappointed when we don’t get results on the board,” said Blackwell.

BURY LEFT DISAPPOINTED

The Bury manager Kevin Blackwell has said that he is extremely disappointed with the defending from his team in the 1-1 draw with Walsall during the weekend. This draw meant that they were unable to get to high positions of the table. Bury have made a poor start to the new season, and they have looked extremely shaky in the match against Walsall. Kevin Blackwell said that it was difficult to put a finger on the reason for their poor defensive showing in this match. Grigg scored after just 7 min on the clock following a defensive mix-up.

Even though the club managed to equalise the match through a goal from Poleon after just a few minutes, they were unable to recover from the early goal conceded. As a result, they could only draw the match 1-1. This was a disappointing result because Kevin Blackwell was hoping to get away from the relegation zone. Walsall were coming into the match after having not won the last five matches, which made Kevin Blackwell target this as an ideal three-pointer. A win from this match would have certainly added to the win achieved last week against Hartlepool United. As it is, Bury still remain in the relegation zone with nine points from the 15 matches played so far.

“The goal that’s gone in, I’m sorry, if I saw it down on a park on a Saturday I’d laugh my head off and I’m angry with that. I’m fed up with stupid, Mickey Mouse goals going in – that’s the one part of the game I’m really, really annoyed with. I let the players know that I’m fed up with giving teams a lift. We are getting punished all the time and we can’t carry on like this, that’s for sure,” said Blackwell after the match.
