Barnsley defender and former captain Jim McNulty’s future at the club has been speculated about in recent days with many suggesting that the 29-year-old could soon be leaving the club in search of pastures new.
This is after he has lost his place at Barnsley in the last month. McNulty has gone from being the club captain to becoming a reserve for Adam El-Abd, who is on loan from Bristol City. The fact that McNulty had to lose his place to loan player is one of the reasons for the increased speculation, but manager David Flitcroft has rejected any suggestions of a move.
Defender Nathan Cameron is the new club captain and it looks like McNulty will not be winning back the captain’s armband anytime soon. Flitcroft has showered a lot of praise on the 29-year-old indirectly by saying that the player has not thrown the prams out of the pocket at this new situation.
Instead, he has been trying to help the team by working hard and keeping himself fit despite being on the sidelines. There have been suggestions that Rochdale could make an offer for him in the next few days. Flitcroft admitted that he had been in talks with Rochdale manager Keith Hill, but does not expect McNulty moving anytime in the near future.
“I don’t know where these rumours have come from.I obviously keep in touch with Keith (Hill, the Rochdale manager) but there is nothing in it.
Jim is being kept out of the team by the good form of Nathan and Adam, but there is no problem between us.We go way back to my time (as manager) at Barnsley and get on fantastically well. He has continued to support the group during his time on the sidelines,” said Flitcroft about McNulty’s situation.
